Has anyone ever had a baby in the NICU who was able to?

My sister had a baby in the NICU and she was there during the day, but the hospital had a place for her and her boyfriend to stay the night. A NICU isn't set up like a regular hospital room. My son was sick for a week after he was born, but he wasn't sick enough to transport him to a different hospital with a NICU (mild persistent problem), and we stayed with him the whole time in our room. Our hospital doesn't even have a nursery-all the babies are "roomed in" after birth. The only time he left our sight was when they were drawing blood or taking x-rays or other tests and procedures. There is a world of difference than having a mildly sick baby in the hospital where you are allowed to "room in" with them and having a very sick baby in the NICU.
