Question About Early Movie Premiere?

Is it legal for a theater to show a movie at 9 p.m. of the night previous the day movie should premiere? With the reason being that more families were apt to bring their children earlier then midnight. For example the Transformers movie is out June 29th, but can the theater show it at 9 p.m. on June 28th?
