SAMSUNG IMPRESSION OWNERS PLEASE HELP!!!!?

when i text and i double-tap the space bar, a period comes up. the qwerty is iffy (if that), so this happens often and is extremely annoying. how do i change this so if i double-tap the keyboard a new sentence doesnt begin? ive tried all message settings and i cant find it! please help!
